FAQs

  • Each year, the season begins the first weekend in January and ends in April.

Games are typically not played over MLK and Presidents’ Day weekends.

The Championship game and end of season banquet are on the last day of the season.

  • We play on Sundays, with the occasional doubleheader (two games) Sunday or week night game.

Games are typically in the afternoons between 12:00 - 4:00 PM.

In the event of a weather cancellation or time conflict, we may play on a different week night or Saturday, if necessary.

  • The WBGBL offers one level of play for new and returning players. The league consists of many experienced and intermediate players who have a firm grasp on the fundamentals of basketball and are able to compete at varying levels of skill beyond novice, ranging from former collegiate or high school athletes to the occasional pick up player. Through one level of play, players engage in a competitive and constructive environment geared toward team camaraderie and success.

  • Yes. At the conclusion of regular season play, the top 8 teams make playoffs (8-4-2 format) with the hopes of making it to the Championship game, followed by an end of the season banquet with trophies and awards.

  • Nope! Just weekly games. The league will share any open gym opportunities via email and/or social media.

  • The cost to play is $190.00. Your dues include 11 guaranteed games and pay for gym time, referees, a jersey, insurance, processing fees, and socials.

The league has a Player Assistance Program to reduce the cost of participation. The amount available varies each year based on donations received. You can indicate interest in financial assistance when you register.

  • You must register for the respective season during the registration window (usually in November of each year).

If you registered before the season’s capacity limit has been met, you will be entered into the annual league draft, meaning you will be drafted onto a team for the season.

Anyone who submits the registration form after the season’s capacity limit has been met will be waitlisted and contacted if any spots open up.

  • If you are new to the league and your registration is confirmed, you will be invited to attend New Registration Runs (usually in December) . At this event for new players, you will get to meet the league’s leadership team, captains, and each other, as well as get some runs in before the season starts.

  • The league conducts a draft each year consisting of players who registered within the season’s capacity limit based on the number of teams, which varies from 10 to 14 (maximum 10 players per team). During the draft, team captains pick their players, resulting in new teams being formed annually. After the draft, players will be contacted about their team and schedule.

  • Players of all experience levels are welcome understanding that the one level of play is, on average, for intermediate players and above.
